NC History Center for the Civil War and Reconstruction partnership
We've given Winton Triangle tours to over ten history professionals and journalists. The 18+ mile tour can cover events from the year 1586 to 1969. On March 6, teachers from Hertford County Public Schools (HCPS) and the North Carolina History Center for the Civil War and Reconstruction were treated to yet another tour. HCPS furnished one of its activity buses driven by none other than Chowan Discovery board member, Rex Pierce.
This tour highlighted 26 sites from Ahoskie to Winton to Cofield. These sites covered the topics of family, worship, war, education, agriculture, business, construction, healthcare and Civil Rights. We planted a flag at the grave of a U.S. Colored Troop soldier who served at the fall of Richmond and in Texas during the time of Juneteenth. The North Carolina History Center for the Civil War and Reconstruction and HCPS partnered with us for the tour.
