"A Better Life for Our Children"

Partnering with Dorothy Canter of the Rosenwald Park Campaign, we hosted a tour of Andrew Feiler's photography exhibit about the Rosenwald Schools at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. Pleasant Plains Schoolhouse is featured in the exhibit and Feiler's book, "A Better Life for Our Children". Feiler's photograph of the school is the icon for the nationally touring exhibit.

With the help of the Pearl Project, the Afro American Historical and Genealogical Society and the Exposure Group of African American Photographers, the tour attracted thirty attendees. We later learned that Chowan Discovery's nomination of Pleasant Plains Schoolhouse to the National Register of Historic Places aided in its selection for the book and exhibit.
